The Punjab Wildlife Department has achieved a significant milestone in nature conservation by intensifying its crackdown on illegal poaching and trade. Over the past year, dedicated rangers have successfully rescued more than 35,000 animals and birds across the province. This massive operation involved strict legal enforcement, resulting in the registration of nearly 3,750 cases against offenders. To deter future violations, authorities imposed heavy penalties, collecting an impressive Rs 766 million in fines and compensation from those breaking the law.

While the Salt Range in Chakwal recorded the highest number of illegal hunting attempts, the cleanup operation was effective across all regions, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Multan. The variety of wildlife saved during these raids is truly astonishing. The rescue teams recovered majestic predators like lions, tigers, and bears, alongside smaller creatures such as spiny-tailed lizards, turtles, and pangolins. Furthermore, thousands of sparrows and other birds were freed from illegal hunter nets. Chief Wildlife Ranger Mubeen Elahi confirmed that every rescued animal received immediate medical attention at the wildlife hospital. After proper treatment, they were safely released back into their natural habitats, ensuring that Punjab’s biodiversity continues to thrive for future generations.
