Sindh Opens Free Pink Scooty Scheme

The Sindh government has officially launched the highly anticipated second phase of its transport initiative designed specifically for women. Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon recently announced that the Sindh free Pink EV Scooty scheme is expanding its reach to benefit residents outside of Karachi. This new phase targets the key cities of Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Hyderabad, marking a significant step in the provincial government’s plan to promote eco-friendly transport while supporting women’s mobility. The primary goal is to provide women with a reliable, independent, and safe mode of travel, reducing their reliance on crowded buses and unpredictable public transport vans.

This initiative is currently open to both students and working women in the selected districts. The Sindh Mass Transit Authority has designed the program to assist women who travel daily for education or employment. By focusing on active commuters, the government aims to ensure that these electric vehicles are utilized effectively to boost economic participation. The scheme is not merely about distributing vehicles; it is a comprehensive support system. Successful applicants will receive seven days of free training to ensure they can ride safely and confidently. Furthermore, the government is providing full assistance in obtaining driving licenses, removing the common bureaucratic hurdles that often discourage women from riding legally.

Sharjeel Memon has emphasized that this project is as much about social empowerment as it is about transportation. Owning a scooter allows women to control their own schedules, reach their workplaces on time, and manage family responsibilities with greater freedom. Seeing more women riders on the roads of Hyderabad and Sukkur will help challenge long-standing stereotypes and encourage families to support their daughters' independence. Additionally, shifting towards electric vehicles aligns with Sindh’s long-term environmental goals. These EV scooters produce zero tailpipe emissions and run quietly, contributing to cleaner air and reduced noise pollution in urban centers.
