DHAKA / ISLAMABAD — August 29, 2026 — Bangladesh has officially confirmed a draft agreement worth $2.3 billion to purchase Chinese-made J-10CE multirole fighter jets. In a significant diplomatic endorsement, Bangladeshi defense officials explicitly cited the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) operational employment and combat record with the aircraft as the primary benchmark driving their procurement decision.
The Strategic Framework of the Deal
Zahed Ur Rahman, information adviser to the Bangladeshi prime minister, confirmed that the draft proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and the Armed Forces Division for final clearance.
The comprehensive package includes 20 export-variant J-10CE jets, pilot training programs, technical support, dedicated infrastructure, attack and transport helicopters, and advanced drone systems. If finalized, Bangladesh will become only the second foreign country after Pakistan to operate the advanced platform.
