NEW DELHI, September 16, 2026 — India has summoned Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in New Delhi and lodged a strong diplomatic protest after a Pakistani naval vessel collided with an Indian Navy ship in international waters in the northern Arabian Sea. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the Pakistani naval vessel approached an Indian Navy warship that was conducting a routine surveillance mission and subsequently collided with it. Indian officials described the Pakistani vessel’s manoeuvring as “unacceptable and unprofessional.” (The Times of India)
India said the collision occurred in international waters and did not result in major damage. Reports also indicate that no deaths or injuries have been reported from the incident. (Türkiye Today)
The Indian government has linked the incident to Article 10 of the 1991 India-Pakistan Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements, saying the conduct of the Pakistani naval unit was in direct contravention of the agreement. (The Times of India)
New Delhi asked Pakistan’s diplomatic representative to convey its concerns to the relevant authorities in Islamabad and called for military units from both countries to exercise greater caution and respect existing agreements to prevent similar incidents.
India has also instructed its Chargé d’Affaires in Islamabad to lodge a corresponding protest with Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, turning the maritime incident into a formal diplomatic dispute. (AP News)
