The Punjab Health Department has implemented a major policy shift that effectively brings an end to free nursing education across government colleges in the province. Under these new regulations, aspiring nurses will no longer receive the state support they previously relied upon. Instead of free tuition, students are now required to pay substantial fees amounting to thousands of rupees to pursue their studies. Furthermore, the monthly stipend that assisted many students with their living costs has been completely withdrawn, and new charges have been introduced for using government hostel facilities.
To qualify for admission under this strict new framework, candidates must hold a Punjab domicile and have secured at least fifty percent marks in their intermediate exams. The policy also outlines specific seat allocations, with over three thousand seats available for both morning and evening shifts across the province. Notably, admissions at the Shahdara Teaching Hospital will now be exclusive to male students. This overhaul marks a significant change for medical students in the region.
